Agata’s first birthday party. I was worried she would freak out with all the people around, but actually she enjoyed it a lot. She played with her cousins and baby friends, with her aunts and uncles, with her grandfathers and grandmothers. She played with all the new toys she got, she tasted the party food and drinks, she toddled around the terrace gibbering in her personal language and gesticulating to help us understand her. She was in a great mood and that made everybody happy.
Even when the cake arrived and she suddenly was put in front of it, everybody around singing, waving, and smiling at her, she didn’t panic, she actually tried hard to understand what she was supposed to do with the candle, eventually her older cousin blew it out for her, and everybody started clapping and laughing, and even then she stood proudly and dumbfounded at the same time, happy to have been a good girl, but unsure on how she did it. That’s Agata, she wants to be good, she lets things happen, she likes what she gets. Many times I project my fears and anxieties on her just to see how lightheartedly she wisely manages to be with things. I wish could learn from her.
The first year is officially gone, it seems both yesterday and one thousand years ago that she was born, so many things have changed, so many progresses have been achieved in such a short time, it is now time to focus on the second year. I can’t wait to see the baby girl she’ll have become by then, and yet I want to savor every minute of this new voyage.
