It’s around eight when I take this shot. I’m driving, Claudia and Agata in the car with me, returning home from the local Leroy Merlin. Via Cristoforo Colombo has a tremendous charm on me, it is such a different place from the rest of the city, that whenever I’m driving through it I keep “shooting mentally” the scenery. This time I had to stop at the traffic light on the top of the hill and I had the time to raise the camera (it’s always hanging from my neck, even when I’m driving) and take this snap.
It is incredible how much the city gets deserted on Sunday evening if Roma football team plays an important night game. Tonight the city is hosting Inter, one of the two teams from Milan that play in the Serie A (top national league). Between Roma and Inter there’s always been a strong rivalry, especially in the first decade of the new millennium. Also, the city of Rome is inhabited by a lot of southern Italians, which usually support either Juventus, Milan or Inter. So, anytime we get a match like the one of tonight, the city gets more or less this deserted.
About the sign, it reads Pompi and it advertises the best tiramisù place in the city. I know that you can find (sort of) tiramisù abroad now, I had in Enschede in the Netherlands last week, I saw it in London, and I guess you can get it anywhere else, but the real tiramisù is something difficult to find properly-made even in Italy, and Pompi serves a top-quality one. So, should you come to Rome, put a visit to Pompi in you list. Then write me and tell me how you liked it.
