Our house is very close to the Tiber. Something like two hundred meters distance, or even less. However, the banks are really tall, hence we need to walk for a couple of minutes to get to the ramp and reach the bank. Down there is a magic place. There’s a cycle lane, which gets crowded by cyclists and joggers at sunset. The atmosphere is a weird and charming mix between underground/squat and antique/romantic. Graffiti and ancient bridges, homeless’ shelters towered by grandiose domes, decadent industrial ruins and luxuriant vegetation. However, as soon as the sun goes down everyone but the uncanny figures disappears.
That would be a good time to leave.
But this time I lingered a little longer. I wanted to take this shot. And I couldn’t with all the joggers and riders, I didn’t want to get ran over and I wanted the lanes to be empty. So that the kids painted over the broken lines could be alone, the last remaining joggers. I don’t know who’s the artist, but if you’ll ever read this post, I want you to know that I find this thing brilliant. Thanks for making it real and sharing it with us.
I took the shot, it was time to leave. In my head Magicland was turning into Zombieland. I try not to argue too much with my head. And I must give it credit, most of the times it’s right 😉
