Something somehow magic happened today. For the first time I met one of the followers of the 365(+1) Days of NEX-7 project. He’s a fellow photographer, currently doing mostly street photography, who’s based in Amsterdam and was so kind to come all the way to Leiden (it’s a 40min ride with the train, but still!) just to meet with me and my family. We spent the evening together and it was brilliant.
The guy is known as Chiuki, I won’t give here his real name due to privacy, but you can see his stuff and get in contact with him by visiting his street photography website. He’s a guy without age, judging from the unbelievable number of incredible experiences that he had you would expect him to be in his 70’s, but then by looking at him and into his vibrant and powerful eyes you would rather guess in his 40’s.
I first “digitally met” him around the 28th of March. He left a funny comment on the sensual chicken breast shot on the dpreview forum. After that he started supporting me with enthusiast comments and sincere encouragement, for which I’ll never stop thanking him.
I really loved the evening. It has been a classic rainy, windy, bitchy Dutch evening, we even did the mistake of having dinner outside, and yet I totally loved it. At dusk the rain went finally off, the sky got a bit of clarity, and I ran out of the pub where we just sheltered and took this landscape shot. Then I walked back into the pub and into the conversation. We kept going, drinking and talking, for quite a while. Then we finally said goodbye to each other, we went home and Chiuki walked to the station. I made a promise to myself that next time we’ll visit him in Amsterdam.
